Your Dog Pregnancy Timeline Details

• Fertilization of the egg will occur after ovulation and mating.

• Once the egg is fertilized, the embryo will travel to the uterine horns on the 7th or 8th day of conception. You can notice slight behavioral changes.

• Your dog will put on weight gain and is the first symptom of pregnancy. Fertilized egg will implant in the uterus lining on the 16th day after conception. You can see a sudden increase of appetite in your dog. She may vomit and have nausea around day 21. The embryo depends on the mother for nutrition. So, feed accordingly.

• Embryo develops by day 22 of the gestation period. Formation of spinal cord and facial features of the puppies start to develop. The levels of hormone “relaxin” will increase. You can take the dog to the vet for a scan around this time. The dog will eat more than the normal amount.

• The level of amniotic fluid in the uterus increases. Your dog may have increased vomiting due to the pressure in the stomach. Pups will get the eyelids by day 32. Your dog’s weight will increase by 20 to 50% and will be visibly seen.

• Your pooch will show her tummy and it is big! The nipples become larger, darker and pink in color due to the increase in blood supply. Dog will feel the increased level of appetite. You should start arranging for whelping. Make sure you feed your dog with more nutritional diet with more minerals and proteins to carry through the phase comfortably.

• The dog’s abdomen will be firm and enlarged Your pooch’s belly hair will shed. Puppies are almost at the full growth stage in their mummy’s womb. Breast tissues develop. You may start preparing for whelping. Provide her a quiet and warm environment. Consult your vet for all suggestions.
