The Anatoli cat is the short-haired variant of the Turkish van (Van Turk) with which it is frequently confused. Also called as Anatolians or Turkish short hairs, she is one of the tall cats with a curious look.

Anatoli Cat History
Anatolian cat is one of 8 natural cat populations of Turkey. They share the same origins of the Turkish Van i.e. from the region of Central Anatolia from which she takes her name.
All the cat breeds present in Turkey today are evolved from ancient wild Anatolian cats. Anatoli is a natural cat that is a short-haired genetic mutation of the Turkish van.
The populations of domestic cats that had evolved naturally without any human intervention are called natural cats.
More simply, the original populations from which the breeds developed are natural cats, not a population of pedigreed cats that have gone feral.
They are called as Anadolu Kedish in their native land, while in the rest of the cat breeding world they are called Turkish Shorthairs.
They came out of turkey and were first showed in a cat show in Germany in 1995. The World Cat Federation (an international association of cat clubs based in Germany) has recognized Anatoli cats as a breed in 2001.
However, it is a rare breed of a cat outside its native country, Turkey. Recently, a national breeding program in Turkey was introduced to help promote, protect and preserve this cat breed.
Anatoli Cat Appearance And Coat
Anatoli (cat) is a medium-sized to large cat with substantial musculature and medium-strong bone structure. These cats may appear larger in stature but until they are 5 years old they can’t reach their full size.
Like her cousin Turkish van, Anatoli is a medium-sized cat with strong bone structure and substantial musculature. It has a robust look with Strong Neck and broad chest.
They have Medium length Limbs with strong muscles and delicate bones. Their back legs are longer than their front legs, making them excellent jumpers.
They can easily jump at the top of your bookshelf or to the top of your refrigerator. Long-tail that is proportional to the body, very muscular even to the tip of the tail!
Their ears are set rather high and straight.
Anatolian cats’ eyes are large, oval-shaped and slightly oblique. Eye color is monotonous and saturated and nicely blended in with the general color of the cat.
They usually have blue, green, bright yellow or amber-colored eyes. And some white Anatoli cats can have one eye that is blue and another that is green or yellow.
Coat
They have water repellent short coat; no woolly undercoat; fine in texture, but crispy to touch.
They are usually plain white but it can also be two-toned: white at the base with colored markings (chocolate, cinnamon, fawn, and lilac are not recognized).
They have fine-textured hairs all over the body and hair in the tails is longer than the whole body.

Anatoli Cat Grooming
On the maintenance side, Anatoli does not need any special care. Anatoli’s are a shorthaired breed without an undercoat, so basic grooming is sufficient.
Simple brushing the coat once a week should help in keeping the cat’s skin and fur healthy and soft. When grooming with a comb and brush is introduced at an early age, the cat will soon become accustomed to it and grooming sessions will be highly interactive.
Known for their hygiene, Anatoli cats do not need frequent baths. Weekly brushing the teeth is better and prevents periodontal diseases.
Clean the litter boxes daily and this will prevent the animal from choosing other places to meet their needs. Nails and Mustaches should not be trimmed as they are the animal’s natural defenses.
Clean their large eyes when required as they may attract dust and other irritants.
Wipe the ears out with a soft damp cloth or cotton ball moistened with a 50-50 mixture of warm water and cider vinegar. Usage of cotton swabs may damage the interior of the ear so avoid using it for ear cleaning.

Anatolian cats are often called “tweeting cats” because they don’t really meow, but make separate vowel sounds like tweeting of bird’s. Anatolian cats are able to make sounds like “ma-ma” and when you hear, it would make you melt.

Feeding Your Cat
Anatoli’s are usually active cats. So even if you resort to free feeding, you don’t have to worry about weight gain of cats. They burn off their accumulated energy in play sessions.
The significant thing about feeding is the quality of the feed and not the quantity. Nutritionally balanced food is always good for the cats.
These cats are fine with chicken, chicken liver and eggs, boiled shrimp, beef, dairy products, etc. They should have constant access to a drinking fountain and well-stocked feeder.
They prefer more water and usually consume more liquid when they have that option, a habit that prevents many kidney diseases. It is good to keep a fountain in some corner of the room or train the cat to drinking tap water when it is opened.
Anatoli can be considered a puppy until they reach twelve months of age. During this stage, the amount of feed can be between 50 to 90 grams per day.
After one year the cat is considered an adult and the feeding can be increased to 90 to 120 grams/day.
Health Problems
When compared with other pedigreed cats, Anatoli cats are physically robust and they are considered extremely healthy.
The Anatolian cats have a more restricted and unpolluted gene pool than many other cats. However, there are a few minor health concerns to look for in this cat.
Neonatal Isoerythrolysis or NI:
This is a rare immune-mediated disease in which the colostrum antibodies in a mother cat’s milk destroy the kitten’s erythrocytes (red blood cells).
This is due to the incompatibility between the mother and baby’s blood types. Once the kittens drink the colostrum, they start to show clinical signs within hours to one or two days, stop nursing, and hemolytic anemia is developed after birth that results in death.
Eye Problems:
One of the most interesting features about Anatoli Cats is that their eyes can sometimes be two different colors. This odd eye characteristic is genetically more prone to white Anatoli cats.
While sometimes this may lead to the cat becoming blind later in their life, this is not always the case.
